The Stucco Remediation Process: Step-by-Step

Stucco Remediation in Progress

Hearing that you need "stucco remediation" can be scary. It sounds aggressive and expensive. While it is a major construction project, understanding the process can alleviate a lot of that anxiety. Here is exactly what we do when we remediate a home.

Step 1: Preparation & Demolition

We start by protecting your landscaping and property. Then, we carefully remove the existing stucco down to the plywood sheathing. This is the moment of truth where we see the full extent of any water damage.

Step 2: Repairs

If we find rotted plywood or framing (and we usually do), we replace it. We ensure the structural integrity of your walls is restored to 100%.

Step 3: Window & Door Evaluation

Often, windows are part of the leak problem. We may re-flash existing windows or replace them entirely with new construction windows to ensure a watertight seal.

Step 4: Moisture Barrier Installation

This is the most critical step. We install a high-quality house wrap (like Tyvek) and often a rainscreen system. A rainscreen creates a small air gap between your wall and the new siding, allowing any moisture that gets in to drain out and dry.

Step 5: New Siding Installation

Finally, we install your new exterior finish—whether that's high-quality vinyl siding, James Hardie fiber cement, or stone veneer. This is the fun part where your home gets its brand new look!

Remediation isn't just a repair; it's a permanent solution. Once we are done, you can sleep soundly knowing your home is dry and protected.
